KBLOG 64: Optical Illusions: Full of Many Lessons for All Ages

The Challenge:

Educators are always on the lookout for unique prompts to begin lessons that pique the interest of students. The best prompts are ones where the connection between the prompt and the topic of the lesson are not immediately obvious. It is great when we challenge students to form lesson connections on their own. Optical illusions can be linked to many aspects of learning and offer a fun and interesting gateway into a variety of topics.

A Solution:

.I was looking at the Teachers’ website Mrs. E Teaches Math), where she wrote “How (and Why) I Teach Optical Illusions.” She has fun with this the Optical Illusion lesson as it can teach about geometry and life in general (you cannot always trust your eyes).

Use optical illusions to introduce lessons on: Critical Thinking, Visual Literacy, Creativity, Science of Perception, Attention to Detail through careful observation, Perseverance, Problem Solving Skills, Understanding Bias,
