KBLOG 81: What Can Classical Music Teach Educators and Parents

As teachers and parents we sometime needed to be reminded why we teach our children and students.

Being involved in educating young people is special, its an honor and a important responsibility.

Beyond the subject matter being taught there are emotional and human connections.

Besides helping young people academically, you are a role model. ong after a student forgets the material you tried to teach. They will remember your kindness, care. There is a saying related to that, ”a child does not care what you know, they want to know that you care.”

In the stress and hectic daily routine, we educators can forget about our true mission and get bogged down in the testing, administration, and schedules and controversail social issues, etc.

When things get overwhelming and frustrating take a look at this short TED video, “The Transformative Power of Classical Music” by Benjamin Zander.

There are statements that Benjamin Zander makes near the end of the video, that remind me of how and why I teach. Its uplifting and needed to just restore your calm and pride in being an educator.

“Never say anything to someone that couldn’t stand as the last thing ever said”

“My Job is awakening possibility in others, when thier eyes are shining its working, who am I being if my children’s eyes are not shining”
